What is a flush plate and what is it for?

A WC flush plate (also referred to as a WC button, toilet flush button, or flush plate) is used to flush a wall-mounted toilet or a urinal.

With modern wall-hung toilets, the flush plate is the only visible part of the flushing system, as the cistern is concealed behind the wall. That is why the flush plate also has a significant impact on the overall bathroom design.

What questions should you ask before buying?

Before adding a toilet flush plate to your cart, make sure you know:

• Is the module designed for manual or touchless operation?
• Does the cistern have single or dual flush?

The flush plate must be compatible with a specific concealed installation module – usually of the same brand.

For example:

• flush plates Geberit are designed for Geberit concealed modules for toilets,
• flush plates Alca / Alcadrain fit their own installation systems,
• WC flush plates TECE are compatible with TECE modules.

How to choose a flush plate?

The most important factor is choosing a flush plate according to your installation module, but there are other parameters that will influence your decision.

WC flush plates by type

• For toilets – the most common option, designed for wall-hung toilets with concealed modules. 
• For urinals – specific plates designed for urinal systems, often used in commercial or public spaces.

Type of operation

Dual flush plate

This is the most popular solution because it saves water and reduces costs. A dual flush plate allows you to choose between a small flush (e.g. 3 L) and a full flush (6 L). Compared to a single 6 L flush system, an average household can reduce water consumption by several thousand litres per year, depending on how often the small flush is used.

Single flush plate

A simpler option – one button activates the entire cistern volume, using approximately 6 litres per flush.

Touchless WC flush plate

A modern solution with an infrared sensor. Simply move your hand near the plate and the sensor detects the motion to activate the flushing mechanism. This type of flushing is ideal for commercial spaces, but also for modern homes.

• no mechanical wear,
• easy maintenance,
• luxurious appearance.

Material: design and durability

WC flush plates are made from various materials that influence both functionality and appearance. You can choose, for example:

• Plastic flush plates – lightweight, affordable, and practical. However, they do not look as luxurious as metal or glass options.
• Metal flush plates – elegant and highly durable.
• Glass flush plates – a luxurious option with a smooth surface that stands out, though not as durable as metal or plastic models.
