How to choose a basin mixer tap?

Choose a basin mixer tap according to the type of basin , spout height and installation method. For shallow basins, a lower spout is more suitable to prevent water from splashing outside the bowl. For countertop washbasins , a higher tap or concealed solution is usually required to provide enough space for comfortable hand washing . It is also important to check the number of mounting holes and verify that they correspond to the prepared connections.

How to recognize a high-quality mixer tap?

A high-quality mixer tap has a ceramic cartridge , a solid body made of durable material and reliable manufacturer service support. The ceramic cartridge ensures smooth lever operation and a long service life without dripping . A reputable brand, availability of spare parts and service support in the Czech Republic or EU are also important. When choosing, it is worth considering the experience and reviews of other users, which can indicate how the tap performs during long-term use.

What tap height should I choose for my basin?

The correct tap height is one that allows water to flow approximately into the centre of the basin without splashing. For shallow basins, a lower spout is more suitable, while for countertop washbasins , a higher deck-mounted or concealed version is usually chosen. The aim is comfortable hand washing with enough space under the spout and without water overflowing over the edge.

Deck-mounted or concealed mixer tap?

A deck-mounted mixer tap is easier to install and usually more affordable, while a concealed tap offers a cleaner design and more space around the basin . Deck-mounted models are installed directly into the basin or countertop and are usually quicker to replace. A concealed solution requires construction preparation and properly prepared connections, but creates a minimalist look and makes maintenance of the surrounding area easier. When choosing, it is important to consider the number of holes and technical installation possibilities .

What should I focus on to ensure the tap lasts and does not drip?

To ensure the tap lasts and does not drip, focus on a ceramic cartridge , quality workmanship and a reliable manufacturer. The ceramic cartridge minimizes the risk of dripping and ensures smooth lever operation . A solid body made of quality material, availability of spare parts and service support in the Czech Republic or EU are also important. When making a decision, experience and user reviews can also help reveal the long-term reliability of the product.

How can I recognize a water-saving tap and what flow rate is ideal?

A water-saving tap has a reduced flow rate of approximately 5–6 litres per minute while maintaining comfortable use. A lower flow rate reduces water and energy consumption without a significant loss of pressure. Water savings are supported by a flow aerator with limiter or eco functions, as well as technologies such as " cold start " or " cool start ", where cold water is released in the central lever position and unnecessary heating is avoided.

Which finish is easiest to maintain (chrome, black, brushed…)?

Chrome is the easiest finish to maintain because it is durable and easy to clean . However, limescale deposits can be more visible on shiny chrome surfaces. Matt black creates a modern look, but it is usually more sensitive to scratches and water marks. Brushed finishes better hide small fingerprints and deposits, but they require regular gentle maintenance.

Will the mixer tap fit my basin and installation (holes, countertop, furniture)?

The mixer tap will fit if it corresponds to the number of mounting holes and technical installation requirements. The most common option is one hole, while some models require three. For countertop washbasins , it is necessary to choose the correct tap height and ensure sufficient space under the countertop for securing the mounting screw. Compatibility with the countertop thickness and connection of the supply hoses are also important.

What affects user comfort (lever, aerator, swivel spout)?

User comfort is influenced by lever ergonomics , aerator quality and spout design. A light and smooth lever operation makes it easier to achieve precise temperature and flow adjustment of the water. The aerator creates a soft, less splashing stream and can also reduce water consumption . A swivel spout is especially practical for larger or double washbasins , where it makes rinsing the area easier.
